Twelve months ago, the Blake boys golf team walked off the state tournament course with a runner-up trophy and a hunger for redemption. This year, they traded that silver for gold, staging a massive, seven-stroke Day 2 comeback to claim the State 2AA Championship title at Ridges of Sand Creek in Jordan.
It was a masterclass in grit, focus, and team depth. Trailing by seven shots after a grueling opening round, Blake refused to fold, storming up the leaderboard on day two to claim the crown.
Jack Mark (Senior): The veteran leader set the tone for the entire tournament. After firing a rock-solid, even-par round on Day 1, Mark found another gear on Day 2, carding a brilliant 2-under-par to finish 2nd overall in the individual standings.
Nate Dunbar (8th Grader): In a field dominated by upperclassmen, the team’s youngest phenom played like a seasoned pro. Dunbar blocked out the pressure to secure an incredible 4th place overall finish, proving the future of the program is in incredibly safe hands.
A Championship Built on Depth
You don’t erase a seven-stroke deficit at the state tournament without a complete team effort. While Mark and Dunbar anchored the top of the leaderboard, the championship was ultimately won through the steady, resilient play of the entire lineup.
The championship roster features a perfect blend of veteran leadership and rising talent who came up clutch when it mattered most:
Charlie Dean (Junior)
Jimmy Hughes (Senior)
Cole Eckes (Senior)
George Mark (Sophomore)
It was the perfect end to an incredible season.
GO BEARS!!!
