Boys' Defeated Austin in Semis. Will Now Face Bemidji.

The Blake Bears Boys' Soccer Team has advanced to the Class A State Championship game after defeating the #4 seeded Austin Packers 3-1 on Tuesday afternoon. With the victory, the Bears will now face the unseeded Bemidji Lumberjacks, who advanced after defeating previously unbeaten #2 Holy Angels.

Senior captain Luke Melin got the scoring started for the Bears in the semis halfway through the first half after a flurry of scoring opportunities from inside the box. 14 minutes later, junior Will Mortenson gave the Bears a two goal cushion after a beautiful set up by senior captain  Jake Lundberg. The Bears took a 2-0 lead into halftime.

In the second half, Austin showed they were not backing down by scoring just three minutes in. Just nine minutes later, Blake sophomore Keegan James converted on a penalty kick, after Lundberg was tripped up in the box, to stretch the lead back to two. The Bears were able to control play and hold off any comeback efforts from Austin as they secured the 3-1 victory.

The Bears, who appeared in their second State semifinal game in three years, are seeking their first State Championship since 2008. #1 seeded Blake (18-1-2) will face unseeded Bemidji (19-2-1) at 12:30pm on Friday at US Bank Stadium.
