The Blake Athletic Department is pleased to announce the hiring of Luke Johnson as our new Girls’ Head Swimming and Diving Coach.

Luke Johnson is a proven head coach who is excited, eager, and enthusiastic about becoming the Head Coach at Blake. Coach Johnson leads by creating a culture and environment that provides a meaningful experience for student-athletes both in and out of the pool.  His coaching philosophy revolves around having fun, personal improvement, and team success. He brings over a decade of coaching experience having worked at high school programs in Minnesota such as Robbinsdale Cooper, Elk River, and St. Cloud Apollo in addition to club coaching experience with the FastJets, Hopkins Hurricanes, and Jetstream Aquatics.

In college, Johnson swam (and dove his senior year) at St John’s University in Collegeville, MN.  Luke’s US Masters Swimming career includes winning the National Championship 3 times in the 1650 free.

Luke Johnson has a passionate focus on developing student athletes into successful adults. His experience as a former collegiate athlete as well as over 15 years of experience in coaching gives us the confidence he will elevate our program and the overall experience of our student athletes. He aligns well with our athletic department’s overall vision and roadmap for success. Immediately, Coach Johnson will work to build a strong foundation from our youth program up to the varsity level.

Currently, Luke Johnson is the Vice President of Minnesota Fresh Farm, a family-run agri business.  He is a dedicated family man and lives in Blaine with his wife, Liz, and 18 month old son Skip.

“I am excited to become part of the Blake Swimming family and am looking forward to working with the athletes not only on their swimming skills, but on developing the skills that will help them be successful in the next phases of their lives. We will have a lot of fun accomplishing both.” explained Coach Johnson.

An invitation to welcome Luke Johnson to the Blake Community, in a Meet and Greet form, will be held on May 22nd at 6pm at the Blake Hopkins Campus in the Cafeteria.  Coach Johnson will give his coaching philosophy, vision for the program, and be available for questions. Please join us.
