Former Minnesota Vikings linebacker EJ Henderson recently showed up at a Wolfpack football practice to award Blake junior Will Bean as a Minnesota Vikings Community Captain.

The Community Captain award recognizes outstanding varsity high school football student-athletes around the state of Minnesota who demonstrate strong leadership on and off the field. Nominees excel in the classroom, on the field and in the community. The program’s goal is to award 10 winners over the course of the high school football season.

Community Captain requirements include maintaining a 3.0 GPA or higher, playing varsity-level football team and demonstrating a strong voluntary community service record. Bean is having a great year in the classroom and on the football field, where he plays safety for the newly formed SMB Wolfpack football team. He leads the team with five interceptions on the season. Off the field, Bean volunteers as a youth minister at St. John's, helps with church garage sales, is a member of the Upper School's Student Interaction Committee and Burnsville Youth Hockey, and he organized a group of baseball players to work with Loaves and Fishes.

Bean received a Community Captain plaque, a custom Vikings game ball and $1,000 to donate to a nonprofit organization of his choice. He chose to donate to the Alzheimer's Association of Minnesota. He will also be honored during the Vikings-Jets game on Dec. 7.

Congratulations, Will!
