The Bearstangs Swim & Dive team captured second place for the second consecutive season at the MSHSL Boys' State Meet, March 5-7.

Perhaps the most exciting moment was when Humphrey Pruett set a new all-time state record in the 100-yard breaststroke at 54.75 seconds in Friday's preliminary qualifier.  The senior took home a state title the next day with a championship swim of 55.61 seconds.

Tiernan Foster-Smith took second in the event for the Bearstangs as he and Pruett helped the co-op take second as a team at the Class A meet with 287 points.  St. Thomas Academy won the meet for the fourth consecutive year with 415.5 points.

The Bearstangs had strong performances across the board to contribute to the second place finish.  Will Grassle won the state title in the 200 IM at 1:55.5 seconds, and Pruett took third at 1:57.07. Grassle also took third in the 500 freestyle at 4:43.61.

The 200 freestyle relay team of Grassle, Pruett, Foster-Smith and Nick Van Oppen took home gold medals with an All-American winning time of 1:24.99. In the 400 freestyle relay, the team of Van Oppen, Pruett, Chris Walker and Evan Stafford finished second at 3:10.78.
