Fencing Team Finishes Second at State

Polansky Repeats as Men's Foil Champion

The Blake fencing team competed in the Minnesota State High School Fencing Championships hosted by St. Paul Academy and Summit School on February 21-22. Over 130 fencers participated in the disciplines of epee, foil and saber. The Bears finished second overall in team scoring behind SPA in both the boys and girls divisions.

Solomon Polansky '15 won his second individual state championship in men's foil by sweeping his six pool bouts and five single elimination bouts en route to the title. Riley Weinman '17 earned fifth place medalist honors in men's saber, and Chris Sheffels '16 tied for seventh place medalist honors in men's epee. Liz Parente '15 scored a top ten finish in women's saber.

The second day of competition featured a squad relay format. The women's saber team earned second place medalist honors, and all three men's squads garnered third place medalist honors.The women's foil and women's epee squads both placed fifth.
