Dear Blake Hockey Community,

On behalf of the Blake Athletic Department, I am writing to notify you about a leadership transition in our Blake Boys’ Hockey program. Coach Greg May has accepted a position on the University of Minnesota Golden Gophers Mens’ Hockey Coaching Staff as their Director of Hockey Operations.

We are pleased to announce that Rob McClahanan will serve as interim Head Coach for the upcoming 2019-2020 season. Rob McClanahan is a familiar face at Blake and in the hockey world. Last season, he served as an assistant coach on the Blake Boys’ Hockey staff.

McClanahan played high school hockey at Mounds View High School before attending the University of Minnesota and playing for the Gophers. He was a part of the Gophers’ 1979 NCAA Championship team. Also, McClanahan was a key member of the 1980 US Olympic hockey team that won a gold medal in Lake Placid, New York. McClanahan was drafted into the NHL by the Buffalo Sabres and he played for the Sabres, Whalers and Rangers during his NHL career.

Currently, Rob McClanahan works for Craig-Hallum Capital Group, a trading and investment firm, and specializes in institutional equity sales trading. Rob’s daughter Sara is a 2018 Blake alumna and she plays women’s hockey for Dartmouth.

We are pleased that the Blake assistant boys’ hockey coaching staff will return in full for the 2019-2020 season. This includes Kasey Boyd, Corbin Chapman, Dan Delianedis, Tom Doyle, Nick Oslund, Jay Phillips and JT Wyman. We are fortunate to have such a dedicated and talented group of adults working with our team.

Beginning in January 2020, we will launch a full search for a head coach and aim to announce an appointment in April. I will reach back out the hockey community to invite your assistance and input into this important hiring process.

Thank you for your support of Blake and the Boys’ Hockey program.

Go Bears!

Nick Rathmann
